The city’s social square
Plaza Burgos is the smaller of Vigan’s two central plazas, set beside St. Paul Cathedral and close to the entrance of Calle Crisologo. It is named for Father José Burgos, the Vigan-born priest remembered with Mariano Gómez and Jacinto Zamora as Gomburza.
The square is not only a historic marker. It remains a gathering place where public life unfolds, from an ordinary pause in the city centre to concerts, school activities and festival programmes. The City Government of Vigan continues to use Plaza Burgos as a venue for large civic events.
Come for the everyday rhythm
Plaza Burgos works best as a place to slow down between landmarks. Food kiosks have long been associated with the plaza, particularly Vigan empanada and okoy, but vendors and operating hours can change.
Pair the stop with St. Paul Cathedral and Calle Crisologo for a compact walk through the historic centre.
