A pause in the street grid
Plaza Salcedo is part of the open space at the heart of Vigan’s historic plan. UNESCO describes it and Plaza Burgos as adjoining parts of an L-shaped space within the street grid. Plaza Burgos is where most of the city’s events take place, while Plaza Salcedo is the calmer half, with a pool and a fountain show on most nights.
Pause here and look at how the surrounding buildings relate to one another. The open space is part of the heritage story, too.
See the wider picture
Look across the plaza before you return to the closer details of the streets. Let the change in scale shape your walk: from a window or doorway to a whole building, then to the city around it. Calle Crisologo shows you the fine grain of Vigan, and the plaza shows how it fits together.
Come back after dark for the fountain show, when the plaza fills with people.
Read about St. Paul Cathedral or return to Calle Crisologo to continue exploring.
